Boston Open recap

Third event at brown belt. I felt great. Warmed up a little better then I normally do, which is little to nothing besides folding myself in half and doing some dynamic stretching. This time I got a sweat in prior to the my fights. Did some hard sprints mixed with light jogging until I got up a sweat.

My actual fight at weight went pretty good, My performance was alright. I won 6-0. Got a sweep, a takedown and another sweep, I BELIEVE. I should of passed, and I have to tighten that up. My guard seemed okay, in no way did I feel threatened with the idea that this guy has good passing or that he was starting to implement something that might cause worry.

I had good passing attempts but lacked that extra little bit to finish the passes I am normally hitting. The kid was pretty strong as some of my friends described. The kid was very active off his back and did a decent job at keeping me away. And did a good job of neutralizing some of my grips.

Again felt ok but my cardio could be much better.

Didn’t do much after my one luta, I watched JT Torres and DJ Jackson a lot, as my fight at weight was at 1p, My absolute started at 6pm. So I layed down a bit then did my same routine, was hanging out with Sinistro Itturalde a lot and stretching and just talking with him about some stuff. I actually fought for Alliance, so we wanted to close the absolute together. Love that kid!

My first fight at weight I fought the same kid. Pulled guard (wth he got two points), immediately swept him with berimbolo. Got ontop, then he stood up and I took him down. And then had another sweep late, to win 6-2.

My second match was against Gianni Grippo, someone I admire, I was really looking forward to this. He pulled guard to de la riva, I began to implement my passing. Made a mistake, he goes for berimbolo, nearly has my back, and I attack his foot and bring him into 50/50 to save myself. From there we sweep each other up to 6-6. I had some straights and even a toe hold I thought, but no adv. He, with 5 seconds left, grabs my foot to attack a toe hold, my foot is straight up and down, no grimmis in my face, I am looking at the ref like “no no nothing ref”. It’s over, I think its going to a refs decision, but no, ref awards an advantage for that late attempt. I was pissed homies.

But, you win some, you lose some. I am sad I didnt get to close the absolute with my bro Sinistro but I am happy I fought someone the caliber of Gianni Grippo, kid is amazing and deserves all the credit.

I am working on all mistakes. I am targeting the Atlanta Open if I can grab a sponsor or two to help me out. If you ever want to support me email me at radhames.familia@gmail.com I will work with whoever.

At the end of the day too, I am happy I got to score some points for Alliance NYC as Babs and Fabio Clement have exposed me to so much in my short time with them.

Until next time, Embrace The Grind!
